Matt's FAQ's

How do you get dressed? I have a helper come into my home in the morning to get me out of bed, put me in the shower and afterwards throw my clothes on me.

Can you drive? I have a van with a hydraulic lift that I have a driver use to take me where I need to go. I do not drive myself (unless you consider my wheelchair a vehicle!) I also travel by disabled taxi or if available aboard buses and trains as much as I can.

What is your longevity? I am no Peter Pan but there is no issue regarding my longevity. I hope to continue living a full and expansive life

Where do you get your clothes? My work shirts and suits are tailor made. Chris Shirts of Sydney look after the shirt department and Ambrosoli and Thompson do my suits. And they have done so for well over fifteen years now. My other clothes are just off the rack with a few adjustments made. Shoes have always been a bit tricky. However, in 2003 I was in New York City and found a department store just off Madison Avenue with a whole range in my size. I walked out with five pairs!

Why did you want to be a lawyer? I always believed it would be a career path where my colleagues would look to my abilities first and foremost, and not my perceived disabilities. And this has largely proved correct.

Why are you so short? That is the way I was born with a rare genetic disorder, but fortunately it doesn't matter so much about the size of the dog in the fight as much as the size of the fight in the dog!
